Facial Fat Grafting

What is facial fat grafting?
Fat grafting is the transfer of the patient’s fat to their face for facial rejuvenation. The fat is harvested from other parts of the patient’s body (thigh, abdomen, buttocks) and injected into different areas of the face. Ageing of the face results in bone resorption, loss and displacement of facial fat pockets, loss of muscle mass and skin elasticity. This results in loss of smooth facial contour, loss of facial volume, sagging and wrinkles. Comprehensive injection of fat into different areas of the face like cheeks, chin and temples can increase facial volume, giving a youthful and rejuvenated facial appearance.

What are the advantages of facial fat grafting?
  • Cost-effective.
  • Autologous tissue – no allergic or foreign body reactions.
  • Permanent – After initial resorption, transferred fat becomes integrated with the tissue of the face and is more permanent.
  • Facial skin rejuvenation due to the regenerative medicine present in the fat.
How long does facial fat grafting last?
  • Fat that integrates with the facial tissue can last for a very long time and will lose volume only as part of the normal process of aging process. This is unlike dermal fillers, which gets reabsorbed in 12 months.
  • However, fat grafting is unpredictable with regards to how much of the injected fat will get reabsorbed and how much will integrate permanently.
  • You may begin your filler journey with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, where the end result is more predictable. Then gradually progress to Facial Fat grafting.

Detailed information regarding the procedure and post-procedure care will be given after consultation.
